The Oscar-winning actress Penélope Cruz and her sister Mónica have joined forces with MANGO for a new season and have designed a fourth collection for MANGO, which is now available at the firm’s stores.
Under the name Penélope & Mónica Cruz for MNG, the Cruz sisters are presenting a limited edition collection with a clear Japanese influence in the volumes and the prints: flowing and enfolding garments like the kimono and the printed dungarees. In this collection, there are also garments with their own style, their particular preference for vintage: the 70s style suit and the sexy mini-dresses for those very special occasions. The fabrics used in this collection are silk crêpe, serge structures and taffeta in various colours with a base of ivory, grey and camel with touches of red and marine blue.
Penélope and Mónica launched their first collection for the firm in 2007. Eighteen months on, the Cruz sisters have reaffirmed themselves as creators of style and trends, adding yet another success to their professional careers.

For a fourth season, Penélope Cruz is the image of the new Spring/Summer ‘09 campaign. The photo shoot took place in London, at the hands of the prestigious photographic duo Mert and Marcus. The famous duo, who have shot our last three campaigns, unleashed all their creative efforts to present A playground of Dreams.

The collection, which takes its inspiration from nature and modern landscapes, creates innovative, architectural, clean and urban silhouettes in which the male wardrobe plays a key role, and displays lines clearly inspired by the 80s. The key garment this season is the trouser, which is presented in a new role: with a high waist and carrot-shaped. Watery blues, pure whites, skin tones, grey shades and pearl rose combine with fluoride touches of lime, tangerine and rose.

For day wear, silhouettes with volume are expressed by exaggerated sleeves, enfolding garments, trousers and dungarees. Also, rectangular and oversized lines stand out in mini-dresses, tops and suit jackets. For night wear, the 80s influence is clear in mini-dresses with one shoulder or strapless necks (in pastel pinks or vibrant oranges and blues), combined with fluoride touches.

Penélope is not only appearing as the MANGO image of the Spring/Summer ‘09 season. Alongside her sister Mónica, she will also present the fourth limited edition collection they have designed under the Penélope & Mónica Cruz for MNG label, which will arrive in stores in mid-February 2009.

We presented the new trends for the Spring/Summer season ‘09 in the Pabellón Italiano on Montjuïc mountain, Barcelona. A Playground of dreams is the name given to the collection, which has ranges for both men and women for the coming season.

The collection, inspired by nature and the modern landscape, creates innovative, architectural, urban, clean-cut silhouettes, in which masculine clothes are of major importance, combined with lines that are clearly inspired by the eighties. This season, trousers are the key garment, and they will dominate the looks of the season, with high waists and as carrot pants. Watery blues, pure whites, flesh tones, grey shadows and mother-of-pearl pinks are combined with fluorescent tones of lime green, orange and pink.

We also have a line for men again this season. The new HE by MANGO collection is based around a very urban, casual look inspired by the modern dandy. Clean-cut shorts stand out, combined with suit jackets or waistcoats, wrinkled check shirts and polo shirts. The collection, which spans some 50 models, reinterprets classic elements of the male wardrobe while paying close attention to every detail, such as the washes and dyes of the garments. Shades of blue are an important part of the colour palette, as are greys and whites, with acid touches of lime, orange, electric blue and pink, sometimes decorated with checks and stripes.

Our limited edition collections are back next season too. Penélope & Mónica Cruz for MNG is a collection with a clear Japanese influence in the shapes and the prints. Flowing, wrap-around garments such as the kimono or printed pinafores, in which the sisters’ particular taste for all things vintage is clear, stand out. These are accompanied by 1970s-style suits and sexy mini-dresses for those special occasions.

Sandrina Fasoli, one half of the winning duo of the first El Botón-MANGO Fashion Awards, presents the collection that she has designed for the brand, in which her unique, innocent take on femininity is on display. Sandrina Fasoli for MANGO consists of 11 very feminine items in which pastel colours such as lavender, antique rose and mist mixed with black are the main tones. Baggy silhouettes stand out, given movement by gathers and folds in very light fabrics such as silk and chiffon, together with garments that play with elements of the traditional smoking jacket, and asymmetrical shapes.

The renowned U.S. designer Adam Lippes has also created two collections for men and women, each consisting of around 20 models which are clearly inspired by the 1970s look. For women, with the label Adam for MANGO the designer presents a very urban collection that combines elements for the daytime and for special occasions, with a touch of the “Halston” look, long dresses, hand-printed patterns with irregular finishes, degradé stripes with sequins, and sack and wrap-around shapes.

Adam for HE, designed with a nod to New York style, consists of versatile garments with a mixture of classic and sports styles, in which timeless fabrics and tight fits with clean cuts are the predominant look, with particular interest in details on linen, cotton and fine wool knits. The line includes a “Prince of Wales” suit in shades of grey, printed shirts and leather jackets. The colours that form the basis of the collection are blues and greys with touches of intense yellow, stone and purple.

There is a new appearance this season from Sweet MNG, our new lingerie line. A luxurious, elegant collection of 18 garments and accessories made from natural fibres such as silk and cotton, in colours such as apricot, lemon, coral and salmon, with floral prints.

Lastly, the Lebanese designer Zuhair Murad continues his collaboration with MANGO with a collection exclusively designed for the Arab countries. In his characteristic style, Zuhair Murad makes use of semi-transparent fabrics, details such as embroidered cuffs, sequins and elaborate floral motifs in his glamorous garments, and uses hippy elements in his jewellery line.

Guest of honour Mónica Cruz watched the show in which some of the garments
she has designed for us with her sister Penélope were displayed on the catwalk

Last night we opened Toronto Fashion Week, which we are sponsoring alongside L’Oréal, with a fashion show presenting the trends that we have to offer this winter. After the event, we provided a dinner followed by a party for those attending, the majority of whom were well-known faces in the fashion world.

We presented our women’s collection, which has been named ROMANCE in reference to the femininity of the details and its romantic, floral air. Another important element is the contrast between masculine and feminine styles. The collection also provides a wide range of long, romantic dresses for when the cocktail hour comes.

We also presented our limited edition Penélope & Mónica Cruz for MNG collection, in which the Cruz sisters add a personal touch to vintage-inspired garments, mixing both masculine and feminine elements in their daytime look. The evening and cocktail ranges are based on glamorous, feminine silhouettes.

The men’s collection HE by MANGO once more featured on the catwalk. This collection reinterprets the classic male wardrobe staples, such as diamonds, cables, checks, stripes, cord and traditional woollen designs.

Canada’s two most internationally-recognised models will feature on the catwalk during Fashion Week: Lisa Cant and Amanda Lane.
